The Berroc are, in fact, the first sentient beings on Nyonia. They were first planted on Nyonia by Ilvir. No one is sure why Ilvir created them; many assume it was to be caretakers of the natural order of Nyonia. Berroc roamed the world for millennia before any other races arrived on Nyonia. They traveled with Ilvir around the world, learning many of the secret places and ways of Nyonia.
Eventually, Ilvir lost interest in the Berroc and moved on to creating other creatures.
